Spinal Cord Injury

A spinal cord injury (SCI) is defined as a sudden, traumatic impact to the spine. What this definition fails to cover is the heart break, pain, and suffering that an SCI brings. An SCI can mean paralysis – full or partial, loss of mobility, respiratory infections, bowel or bladder dysfunction, and, too often, death.

Motor vehicle crashes are the most common cause of a SCI (40%), but spinal cord injuries also occur from acts of violence (15%), or as a result of a fall or sporting accident (8%) Frighteningly every 14 minutes, someone suffers a SCI.

Why You Need a Lawyer

Treating and living with SCI can be costly. Estimated first year expenses for someone with a SCI range from over $235,000 to well over $700,000 (depending on the severity), and just over half of the people who experience an SCI are covered by private insurance.

You need to consult a lawyer if you or a family member has sustained a spinal cord injury, and you need to do this as quickly as possible after the accident. Evidence needs to be preserved, medical procedures reviewed, and physicians and other experts consulted to evaluate the injuries and the accident.

John R. Sutton and his legal team can help you, defending your rights and working hard for your voice to be heard and justice to prevail.
